Karissa Handler is a New Jersey School Counselor with seven years of experience supporting students in academics, career planning, and personal growth. She also guides students nationwide through the college application and essay process, blending her counseling expertise with strong writing skills.
Karissa is a dedicated New Jersey School Counselor with nearly seven years of experience guiding high school students through academic, social, and career development. Before entering education, she worked in family services and as a publicist in New York City, experiences that sharpened her communication and writing skills.
Her passion for counseling began as a volunteer with iMentor in Brooklyn, where she supported at-risk youth with academics, emotional growth, and college planning. Since then, she has worked with a wide range of students, helping each navigate their unique path with confidence.
Since 2022, Karissa has been part of Jenna’s team, guiding students nationwide through the college application and essay process. She combines her counseling expertise with her strong writing background to help students present their best selves to admissions committees.
Karissa is highly proficient with platforms like Naviance, Scoir, PowerSchool, and Genesis, and maintains strong relationships with college admissions representatives across the country. She takes pride in building meaningful connections with students and families, ensuring they feel supported every step of the way.
Karissa holds a B.A. in Journalism and Professional Writing from The College of New Jersey, an M.A. in School Counseling from Montclair State University, and a certificate from Columbia University’s College Advisement Program. She is currently pursuing her Director of School Counseling certification and continually seeks opportunities to expand her expertise.
